Problems start when you eat too much saturated fat and your body makes too much of the LDL, or \u201cbad,\u201d cholesterol, which can then turn into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secondscount.org\/heart-condition-centers\/info-detail-2\/what-is-arterial-plaque\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plaque<\/a> that lines (and eventually clogs) your arteries and can lead to a heart attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cholesterol fuels your sex drive<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s no myth \u2014 you have cholesterol to thank for making the sex hormones testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. You wouldn\u2019t want to live without it! In fact, you couldn\u2019t live without it, as cholesterol is also a vital component of cell membranes \u2014 think of it as one of your body\u2019s building blocks \u2014 and it also plays a role in digestion by helping your liver make the acids needed to digest fat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pregnant women have naturally high cholesterol levels<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During pregnancy, a woman\u2019s total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol reach high levels.
